Samples are the foundation of new electronic music, the sounds we find, grab, and tweak to make our own. Samples let musicians pay homage to the masters while also allowing musicians to craft a sound that is fresh and appreciably different. It is a whole new evolution to music, where everything is fair game and the life cycle from original to remix is dramatically shorter.

Advances in both hardware and software technologies, and have also made the music-making process cheaper and more accessible than ever before. It used to take $25,000 to buy equipment for a professional-grade studio and a small fortune to make a good sounding album. 10 years ago you almost had to be a computer programmer to operate the software. Now the equipment to build a great-sounding studio can be had for around $3,000. Likewise, the software has become easy to learn and intuitive. This has allowed music enthusiants to make records out of their living rooms for next to nothing.
